Setting Custom User and Administrator Help Files

Introduced with Perspective V 3.2, in Administration, you can set up custom help files for each language, and specific help files for regular users or Perspective Administrators.

Perspective allows your organization to set unique user and Admin help files for each language set.

The default Perspective user and Admin help files are HTML files stored on your Perspective server. However, Perspective allows you to set any file as a custom help file, provided the workstations that call up that custom help file can open the associated file type. For example, if the custom help file is in Microsoft Word .doc format, launching Perspective help would attempt to open the file with Microsoft Word, provided it is installed on the workstation opening the help file.

To set up custom help files:

  1. Open Perspective Administration.
  2. Under Language, click Configuration. A list of languages appears to the right, as per the screenshot above.
  3. Click the language to set custom help files for (e.g., Base Language).
  4. Set the Admin Help Path:
    • Click the folder icon.
    • Browse to and double-click the file to use.
    • To test the file, click the testing icon. The file you selected should open.
    • If necessary, remove the help file by clicking the red X icon.
  5. Set the User Help Path:
    • Click the folder icon.
    • Browse to and double-click the file to use.
    • To test the file, click the testing icon. The file you selected should open.
    • If necessary, remove the help file by clicking the red X icon.
    • Repeat steps 3-6 for each language you want to set custom help files for.
  6. Save. PLEASE NOTE: You will receive the following message "It is recommended to back up the database before proceeding. This will change all existing form labels and lookups to English (United States) Would you like to proceed?"  Select 'No' When you receive this message.
  7. Log out then log back in - then attempt to use the Help (user and/or Admin) to ensure that you can access the files successfully.
